We need a sound or light board operator for tech week. He or she must be available Sunday through Sunday. ***PITTSBURGH MONOLOGUE PROJECT***
As part of a session introducing the English major, the lovely Dr. Laura Engel would like some theatrical involvement. We discussed having a few good Masquers do pieces from the Pittsburgh Monologue Project. If anyone is available on September 26 from 3-4:30pm and would like to do a monologue they have done or would like to do, please email Joe Jasek at jasekj919@duq.edu.
***DUQUESNE UNIVERSITY UP 'TIL DAWN***
Who We Are: Up 'til Dawn is a campus-wide philanthropic program that raises money for and awareness of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. St. Jude opened in 1962, and since then, the cure rate for the most common form of cancer - acute lymphoblastic leukemia - has increase from four percent to over 90 percent. St. Jude treats patients from all over the US and all over the world, never turning away a patient due to race, religion, creed, or ability to pay. As well as operating as a children's hospital, it also acts as a research center for children's cancer and other diseases. Any and all research and protocols developed at St. Jude are freely shared with the medical community worldwide, meaning that one patient treated at St. Jude means thousands saved around the world. The daily cost to run St. Jude is now over $1.1 million.
The Letter Writing Party: What Up 'til Dawn does is try to raise money to help pay for that daily cost. We host small events throughout the year, focusing mostly on our letter writing party. We ask students, either working alone or in teams, to send out 50 letters (all pre-typed for you) to family and friends, asking for a small donation. The average amount of money raised for every 50 letters sent is over $250! If you complete 50 letters you become part of the UTD Insomniac club; you're entered into a drawing for a video iPod, as well as other fun things.
The Finale Event: Not only do the students who participate save lives, they have fun doing it. We work together to raise funds for St. Jude, and then celebrate our fund-raising accomplishments by literally staying "Up 'til Dawn" (in our case 2am) at the finale event. We "Fight the Yawn" in tribute to the patients and families of St. Jude.

*Awareness Week: September 22-26, 2008, 'Noon-3pm We'll be on A-Walk from 'Noon to 3pm, where you and your friends can sign up. It's $5 per person, but part of that goes to the awesome UTD shirt you'll be getting!
*Letter Writing Party: Wednesday, October 22, 2008, 3pm-10pm This year the Party is in the Duquesne Room in the Union. Bring your 50 addresses any time between 3pm-10pm. We even provide the letters and envelopes!
*Finale Party: Friday, February 13, 2009, 6pm-12am The Finale Party not only honors the families and doctors of St. Jude, but also celebrates the year's accomplishments. This year, seeing as our theme is "Rock the Cure," we plan on having multiple bands playing and other fun activities as entertainment. Headlining will be two of St. Jude's very own Rock Stars - two patients and their families will be coming to join us!
