For its fourth season, Pittsburgh Shakespeare in the Parks will be producing Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" this October, with evening and weekend rehearsals beginning September 2, and free performances in the city parks each weekend of October.
Pittsburgh Shakespeare in the Parks announces two opportunities to audition for Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night : Saturday, August 16, 2008 with callbacks Sunday, August 17 and Saturday, August 30, 2008 with callbacks Sunday, August 31. Auditions begin at 12:00 pm each day at the Blue Slide playground in Squirrel Hill, Beechwood Blvd and Nicholson Street (near Phillips Ave).
Free performances in the park are scheduled for 2:00 pm each Saturday and Sunday of October, 2008, with performances in Frick Park, Mellon Park, and Kennard Playground.
Male and female actors of all ethnicities, ages ranging from 20 to 60, are needed in the production. Please prepare 2 monologues: one personal favorite and one Shakespeare monologue. Actors may read monologues if they don’t have them memorized. Actors who sing or play a musical instrument should come prepared to demonstrate these skills: one a capella song, or one musical selection for instrument. Nominal stipend available. Evening and weekend rehearsals will begin September 2, 2008.
Twelfth Night is named for the traditional festival of misrule, allowing for unfettered hi-jinx, romantic maneuvering, and general topsy-turvy behavior. Those who refuse to laugh are laughed at, while Shakespeare reminds us that romance, youth, and joy are precious commodities, not to be wasted.

We are in need of a costume coordinator and stage manager for the production.
COSTUME COORDINATOR: Looking for a costume coordinator who can contact the local theatre companies and university theatre departments and make arrangements to borrow costume pieces, measure actors, find and pull pieces, maintain pieces as needed through run of show, clean and return costumes pieces at end of run.
Budget: $100 as a stipend to pay for all of the work, and another $100 for purchasing misc. small pieces or sewing supplies. PSIP has a volunteer seamstress who will donate her time and skills for building any specialty items we may need.
Set is minimal: just small prop pieces, and we'll be moving around a bit OUTSIDE, so most of the visual impact for the show will come through costuming.
The show is set in 1929 America, and characters' looks will reflect the looks of early movie clowns, e.g. Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, the Marx Brothers, etc. The combination of pathos and comedy of these comics really fits the tone of the production. So, we'll be needing lots of 1925-1929 type clothes.
STAGE MANAGER: Need someone to keep everything running smoothly, e.g. keep the schedule straight, record blocking, help find and run props for the show, publish rehearsal notes as needed, serve as liaison between director, actors, and producer as needed. $50 stipend available.
